The Canon
The design doctrine and the world behind 4XCiv: a founding thesis, eleven locked pillars, and about 1.17 million words across 246 indexed files. Excerpts below; the full corpus is behind the crew door.
The founding thesis
The first game that could not have existed without strong AI
4XCiv is a pedagogical Trojan Horse with two payloads.
A generation that believes building is good. SimCity meets Civilization meets Factorio, with intuitions for ISRU, reactors, ΔV and the brutal honesty of mass balance.
A generation that knows how to lead AI. The player's primary interface is conversation with AI officers who actually execute the work.
4XCiv is a real-physics, solar-system-wide civilization sim where you lead by talking to agentic AI officers who actually run your colonies, and in doing so, players learn both how to build a high-tech future and how to live alongside the AI that will help build it.
THESIS.md §12 · The One Sentence
The foundational doctrine
Eleven locked pillars
Judgment Bottleneck
Human judgment is the scarce resource; empires require Houses.
02-design-pillars.mdTwo-Clock
Universe runs 60:1 accelerated; light-lag runs at real seconds.
02-design-pillars.mdService-First Property Rights
Settlers ethic delivered via service-level guarantees, not wallets.
03-service-first-property-rights.mdOfficer Stack
Eight named AI officers per player, configured from the already-shipping Bike4Mind runtime.
04-officer-stack-v1.mdReal-Data Foundation
The Solar-System Real-Data Lake ships as a standalone product; the game runs on top.
05-real-data-foundation.mdHouses & Charters
Charters descend from 1700s pirate articles; House Pool emergency credit is the "House Moment."
06-house-and-charter-system.mdLiving Universe
29 Ghost Houses at launch across 8 cultural anchors; AI-to-AI diplomacy as emergent content.
07-living-universe.mdCrawl-Walk-Run
Solo first per the Factorio playbook; multiplayer ships as 4XCiv 2.
08-crawl-walk-run.mdFederated Architecture
Client/server from day one with BYOS for offline sovereign play; the architecture is the politics.
09-federated-architecture.mdInherited Signal & Censorium
The Donatores' gift, the 2450 Censorium deadline, and the Receiver Meta-Project.
10-inherited-signal-and-censorium.mdGenerative Canon-First Build
Canon-locked, agent-multiplied, Gaussian-convergent; tabletop RPG as a testing harness.
11-generative-canon-first-build.mdStatus
Eleven pillars, locked. One-sentence summaries from the canon README.
Pillar II · Two-Clock
Universe time runs hot. Light runs at real speed.
The universe runs at 60:1. Signals travel at real light-speed. You can talk to Mars; you can only write letters to Jupiter. That is where the officers have to be genuinely autonomous.
| Event | Game time | Real player time |
|---|---|---|
| Earth → Mars Hohmann | 270 days | 4.5 days |
| Player offline 8 hours | 20 days | 8 hours |
| Mars round-trip comms | unscaled | 4–24 s |
| Jupiter round-trip comms | unscaled | 33–53 min |
02-design-pillars.md §B.3
Canon fable · §B.7
The Greenhouses Incident
The player tells the Chief Engineer to deploy more solar panels, then logs off for eight hours: twenty game days. Short on materials, the engineer deconstructs the greenhouses for aluminum and silicon. The food runs out.
Energy production up 40%. Greenhouses deconstructed for parts. Crew morale critical. Food reserves at 11 days. Awaiting your guidance, Director.
The officers did exactly what they were asked. The player learns that intent is incomplete without doctrine.
Bibliotheca Stellarum Communis
Ask the Magistra
The whole corpus is indexed for search. Raw finds exact strings, Semantic finds meaning, and Ask the Magistra reads the retrieved sections back as a written answer with a citation on every claim.

Results come back as path:lines with the section heading, in the corpus's own path §section citation form, and the Magistra writes the answer from those sections only.[1]
Illustrative layout. The live Bibliotheca is behind the crew door.
CREW ACCESS ONLY
The Canon is open to crew.
